Now that it’s already March, a lot of people have given up on their new year’s resolutions, I’ve failed to complete a few myself, but I did manage to create some good habits and keep them up, so I wanted to share my tips with you to maintain a good habit and achieve your goals!
Use a habit tracker
I use an iphone app called ‘Productive‘ to pick habits that I want to do every day, week or month, the app gives you a nice overview of your habits as well as a calendar where you can check your streak count, if you maintain your habits every day, your streak count goes up. You can even get notifications so you are reminded of what you need to do!
Keep it realistic
This is definitely true for new year’s resolutions, why try and run everyday if you actually hate running? You could find another sport that you love doing more! This is also important when it comes to timing, do you have time to do your habit everyday? Maybe try aiming for 3 times a week at first. When you set realistic goals you are much more likely to achieve them and then you can still decide to aim higher!
Write lists to motivate you
If you want to start a habit, I find it helpful to write lists. For example you could write a list about why you want to do this habit everyday or ways to keep your habit fun, if you want to read more books, it could be fun to create a to-read list or if you want to paint everyday, make a list of subjects you want to paint! Looking at this list can help you keep it fun and stay motivated.
Schedule your habits
A big thing I discovered in maintaining good habits is that you need to schedule them in, if you don’t have time to do a habit, you won’t do it or even forget you have to do it. If you want to do exercise every day, make sure you make the time to do so. Even just 30 minutes a day! For me this trick really helped with posting regular blog posts, in my calendar I write when I take pictures and when I want to write a post, that way they’re finished when I want to post them!
Don’t be afraid to change your goals
It’s possible that your goals can change because maybe you have different priorities like school or even spending more time with your friends. You shouldn’t be afraid to tweak your habits or goals along the way. Maybe you started out with blogging but you want to start making videos. Tracking habits can be great to get you started but don’t feel like you have to keep doing the same thing forever!
I hope you enjoyed these tips and that they help you out!
