Welcome to another Conscious & Cute Book Club! I love reading non-fiction books about self care, health, zero waste, sustainability and more! In these book clubs I want to share some of my thoughts with you! This post is about the book Happiness by Design by Paul Dolan. On the cover it says ‘Change what you do, not how you think’ and that really caught my eye, are you curious too?

When I flipped through the book I immediately saw some graphs and visuals explaining different (scientific) concepts, I absolutely love books like these because I am for sure a visual learner and find that little drawings like these really help to explain more difficult concepts to me. I love scientific or psychological topics but I can’t always concentrate on long, difficult texts without any visualisations. This book talks about what makes people happy, why people aren’t happy and how you can ensure your own happiness. The author uses many actual examples to support his ideas and explains everything in a way that is easy to understand. He gives you new insights and really gets you thinking about your own life as well.

In the back of the book you can find the many different sources and notes the author used while writing this book, it shows that he didn’t only include his own thoughts but those of many others as well! This shows that he based his theories on actual research and that makes it much more valuable to me personally!

Who do I recommend this book to?

I recommend this book to anyone that ‘has it all’ and still feels uneasy with themselves. If you are ready to do some self exploring and really get thinking about your own life, you might enjoy this book. It’s a light read of about 250 pages with some visuals as well. The author uses a lot of examples and talks about research he found, and also some he did himself! It’s not difficult to understand but it does give you some great psychological insights so it’s not gibberish at all! I also filmed a YouTube video going more in depth about the topics this book touches on, if you’re not convinced yet, watch it here!
